- 1. Do I need a special driver's licence?
No, your valid drivers licence is all you need. All persons who choose to
drive must have their licences listed on the rental contract. We have an age
restriction of 25 years. There is no extra charge for extra drivers.
- 2. How do I collect the motorhome?
We can arrange a transfer from the airport or your hotel to our locations. Let us know where you are staying, or which flight you will be arriving on. Remember if you are arriving late in the afternoon, we recommend you overnight at a hotel before starting your trip.
In Calgary we recommend a downtown hotel so that you have a chance to see our city on your first evening. In Vancouver the airport hotels are the most convenient. We also recommend hotels in the New Westminster area, which are convenient for transfers and close to the SkyTrain. If you like we would be pleased to reserve a hotel for you.
We usually hand over the vehicle between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Vehicles must be returned before 10:00 am to avoid being charged for an extra day. We are open seven days a week for your convenience.
- 3. What do I need to bring from home?
Just your camera, clothing and personal items, if you purchase our living
equipment kits. These have all the necessary kitchen tools, dishes, towels,
bedding et cetera to make your trip enjoyable. We even supply a flashlight
and an axe for the campfire! We also rent folding
chairs, barbecues and other items to add to your fun.
- 4. Can I park anywhere overnight, or do I have to stay in a campsite?
We suggest you stay in a recognized campsite overnight for your own safety and security. Canada's parks are full of secluded, scenic spots where you can make a campfire, listen to the sounds of nature and meet other campers from around the world.
- 5. Where can I buy groceries, beer, wine and alcohol and how late are the shops open?
In Canada most supermarkets are open until 9:00 pm during the week and until 6:00 pm on weekends. We can direct you to the closest and most convenient shopping centres. Beer, wine and alcohol are not sold in supermarkets. You can purchase these items at liquor stores or beer/wine stores.
- 6. Where should I spend my first and last nights in the camper?
For Calgary clients we suggest provincial park campgrounds in Kananaskis (Bragg Creek area) or Bow Valley Provincial Park on Highway 1 near Seebe. Both these parks are within one hour's drive from our station. Reservations are not required but are available if you wish. If you prefer a city campground, the Calgary West KOA is also convenient.
In Vancouver, there are several campsites in the Langley area, which are close to our station. Many clients also choose to stay in Hope, which is approximately one hour's drive east at the gateway to the Fraser Canyon. For clients who prefer to spend their first/last night near the city, we recommend the Burnaby Cariboo RV Park, which is conveniently located beside Highway 1 in Burnaby.
- 7. What is the width and height of the motorhome?
We supply you with a manual which gives the measurements in feet and meters. Remember you are responsible for all damage to the roof, so be careful when driving under low bridges. And, please do not enter underground parking lots!!
- 8. Where can I drive with my vehicle? Are there any restricted areas?
We will help you select the routes which will give you maximum driving
pleasure and excellent scenery. We highly recommend the country roads
in Alberta and BC and will show you which ones are suitable for the
vehicle you are renting. We allow our vehicles on all public roads,
but there is a surcharge for travelling to
Alaska, Yukon and the Northwest Territories, along the Alaska, Cassiar
and Mackenzie Highways. None of our vehicles are permitted off road,
including 4x4 trails, logging roads and other private roads which are
not maintained by the government. Driving into the USA is also permitted
at no additional charge, as long as the vehicle is returned to Canada.
- 9. What kind of insurance coverage do I have with the rental contract?
Alldrive's vehicles are insured with $5,000,000 public liability and property
damage. There is $4,000 deductible collision insurance. Should you wish to
reduce the deductible you may purchase a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) for $25
per day, which will reduce the deductible to $750.
You will be asked to leave a security deposit of $1000 when you rent the vehicle. This deposit is increased to $3000 if LDW is not purchased.
- 10. Which size/type should I choose for my vacation?
There are several factors to consider. If economy is important then we recommend the pickup campers. These vehicles are also more suitable for northern travel, and for travel on gravel roads throughout western Canada. We offer three types, depending on the level of comfort you wish.
If you like the idea of a base camp, we suggest the Trailerhome,
which is a fifth wheel trailer and pickup truck combination. This vehicle gives you the flexibility of touring the side roads, as you can easily disconnect the pickup and leave your trailer at the campsite. You can sleep in roomy comfort and still explore the back country. For groups of four or more we suggest ordering the crew cab truck, which has seating for six. See our rates for information.
For long distance touring many customers choose motorhomes. These integrated units have comfortable living areas and are easy to drive.
